2026, What’s Meshing - The dawn of something new
2025 is done, but its effects will live on into the future. When I started writing my first blog in mid-2025, it was because I had found a technology that really caught my interest. To understand it better, I thought: why not write about it? There was no expectation of hundreds of people reading it, or of starting the life of an influencer. These blogs were really just a journal of my journey. What surprised me most wasn’t the technology itself, but how quickly it turned into conversations, experiments, and friendships. Along the way, I picked up three very interesting people: Gabriel, Martin, and Mikael. On 6 November 2025, “Jkpg Mesh ideell förening” (a non-profit organization) was born. A new chapter had started.

When I started experimenting with Meshtastic, a few brands immediately stood out: Heltec, Seeed Studio, Lilygo, and RAK. These companies offer some very nice modules, both as development kits and in compact, ready-to-use form factors. However, anyone who knows me knows that I like to optimize. How can I get the most functionality and value for the least amount of money? Can I build something that is flexible and easily extended over time? These questions sent me down a bit of a rabbit hole. In today’s blog post, I’d like to share some interesting electronic components I’ve come across that could be used for Meshtastic-based projects. I want to be clear from the start: I have not used any of these products yet, and this post is not sponsored by any of the brands mentioned.

There’s a lot of excellent information on Meshtastic.org, and that’s the beauty of open-source: the documentation grows as the community grows. Still, many of us (myself included) are the “experiment first, read later” type. Since helping with JKPG-MESH.se, I’ve been thinking about how to make some of the more complex LoRa concepts a little more bite-size. This post is a follow-up to my previous entry, “Why Meshtastic Uses 868 MHz”, and the goal here is simple:
- Show how the LoRa parameters used by Meshtastic interact on the 868 MHz band
- Explain why the presets look the way they do
- Give you a better feel for what’s happening under the hood
Meet the Modules: Telemetry
As mentioned in the first Meet the Modules blog post, modules are a feature included in the Meshtastic firmware allowing users to extend the onboard capabilities of the Meshtastic node. In the last post we looked at how to create a new module, and in this blog (and most likely a few more) we will be looking at already-included modules. One of these modules is Telemetry, a module that creates and sends a “fancy” message filled with data from sensors connected to the Meshtastic node.

Since looking into Meshtastic technology, I’ve become genuinely impressed by how much thought went into this project. It’s a true open-source effort — not just another “hack.”
One area that I don’t see being used enough (and maybe I’ve just been looking in the wrong places) is the Module feature of the firmware. In this post, I’d like to dig a bit deeper and hopefully inspire some of you out there to create your own great modules.

If you've spent any time in the Meshtastic community beyond that initial buzz of excitedly opening your brand new unit, you’ve heard the debates: to use or not to use MQTT?
You quickly realize it’s some sort of link, a bridge that connects your long-range LoRa network to the wide-open internet. There are maps that show nodes across the world, and interact with far-away nodes. You decide to set it up, and BOOM—your local, off-grid network is now talking to the globe.
What did you just step into? Let’s demystify the powerful relationship between MQTT and Meshtastic today.
